'Catalonia’s independence referendum could create new country within 48 hours of result'

'Catalonia’s independence referendum could create new country within 48 hours of result'

Ships full of police are on standby in Barcelona ahead of a key vote that could see a new country created by this time next week

THE world could have a new country with an independence referendum set to be held in Spain’s Catalonia region on Sunday.

The wealthy area that is home to 5.5 million eligible voters and includes Barcelona plans to hold a vote on whether it should secede from the rest of the country. If successful, draft plans include a declaration of independence within 48 hours.

But Spanish authorities have declared the vote illegal, and have sent police from around the country with the aim to prevent people from attending polling stations.

The Madrid-based government has also seized millions of ballot papers, arrested officials, and left a huge ship in Barcelona’s harbour housing extra Spanish police in the expectation that violence could break out.

Spain’s chief public prosecutor refused to rule out arresting Catalonia's regional leader Carles Puigdemont, and charging him with civil disobedience, abuse of office and misuse of funds over the vote.

Local leaders say they have the right to decide the future of the region that has a distinct language and cultural identity. However, Spain’s Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has repeatedly called the vote illegal with the legislation underpinning it suspended in Constitutional Court.

Spanish President Rajoy in Washington D.C.; Trump interference

'Trump, Rajoy commit to fighting threats to democracy'

Maybe President Trump needs to remember that the USA was formed 100% "illegally." In other words, it was illegal in terms of British law. Americans did not defeat the British; they WERE the British! They "illegally" defeated their own government in a rouge act. This is different in that Catalonia is a distinct region, culture, language, and people that has been carrying Spain on it's back for decades. This vote and the impetus for secession is apparently legal. Of course, the Globalist/Fabianist Spanish government wants to keep the hen that lays the golden eggs, and turn it into a rootless migrant-magnet.

This reminds me of the sickening charade of the Austrians hanging Cesare Battisti as a "traitor." A scene from the 'Shawshank Redemption' comes to mind, where Andy finally tells Warden Norton that he can find someone else to do his crooked bidding for him... and the response of "nothing stops!" Right now we're almost at that point with this. Sometimes the class bully doesn't want to stop; he requires some strong encouragement. I don't know if Catalonia would be able to do that if the referendum passes.

Every nation was born in blood; such as with the saying "might is right." Even Britain in the Middle Ages had to force the Gaels to become "British." I really don't know if the Catalonians would do something such as stand united in solidarity, as with the IRA in Ireland, in terms of perhaps shutting down the whole country if needed. A simple vote won't be enough... it will have to be a vote... and a push!
