Roman provinces and place names

It's interesting how Roman provincial or place names have become either the chief name or secondary name for a lot of countries, regions, or cities, such as Britannia. Even regions which were never conquered--such as Germania (German-speaking tribal regions), Lusitania (Portugal), Hibernia (Ireland), or Caledonia (Scotland)--the old Roman name is used today to some capacity or for some type of reference. As far as Italia rather than Romania, historically, names of nations are often quite imperfect. For example, Belgium is properly named for a powerful Celto-Gaulish tribe that lived there, while France is named after the Franks who had conquered that territory. Actually, the cultural link there is much more powerfully tied to ancient Gaulish tribes or later the Romanized Gauls.

Another example of a poor job at naming is "Austria," which is the English-language word for the country of Österreich. Actually, the original "Austria" was the name of a duchy within the Kingdom of Lombards or Langbard, which was where Lombardy, Veneto, Trentino, and Friuli are today. Since Österreich conquered and occupied that land prior to the Risorgimento, and the old Austria-Australia confusion, giving Österreich the nickname "Austria" seems like a dumb idea. Italia, or at least the reference to the old home province of the Roman Empire, should probably have been named Romania. Also, this land was known in the ancient world as Saturnia. At any rate, since the old Roman names are stylish and catchy, they have been a fun way to reference cultures or regions. For example, San Francisco's Caledonia Club is a Scottish cultural club.

The battle of Lepanto 1571 was one of the greatest naval battles of the Mediterranean and the last one to be fought almost exclusively by rowing vessels. According to maritime historian Lawrence Mott a staggering amount of 70 to 90 percent of all war galleys in the basin participated in the fighting.  Lepanto was in some sense the naval counterpart of the 1683 siege of Vienna. Contemporaries and historians long saw it as a climactic battle between east and west and mythologized it as the battle in which a Christian fleet defeated the seemingly unstoppable Ottoman threat from the east. In this video were going to look at what exactly happened in the gulf of Patras and look critically at the impact the battle really had.

Anti-Italianism/Slavism/Central European/Greek/Etc disguised as "Critical Race Theory"

"There are moments in life when keeping silent becomes a fault, and speaking an obligation. A civic duty, a moral challenge, a categorical imperative from which we cannot escape."
-- Oriana Fallaci

Unless someone's head has been stuck in the sand for years, it's crystal clear that this subject gains momentum all of the time. Now it's to the point where we can definitely say that it's every single day. One can barely scan the news without it coming up, and it's overwhelmingly the same three ethno-cultural groups doing the agitating, and without any question to the contrary allowed. They simply dominate and rule us, and without any ability to speak for ourselves about it. I remember at the grammar school which I attended many years ago, each year on MLK's birthday, students from outside the district would gather outside while we were in school, and would launch attacks against us when we came out for a recess. However, they didn't go into a well-to-do area or some safe suburb to make their insufferable anger known. They went after a blue-collar, perhaps lower-middle class area, and whose residents were mostly Italian, Slavic, Armenian, etc. To put this into perspective, "white and black" were still the majority populations in the general area, and MLK's birthday was not yet a federal holiday. At the time, none of us saw the mind-numbing irony to this. How can say a Croatian-American student--for example--be held responsible for what occurred on a different continent, in a different century, on the opposite side of that continent, in a state which had barely attained statehood at the time, long before their ancestors had even arrived here, for any events of that time period!!?? This has got to be the goof of all time! And we strand for this!?

"Critical Race Theory" does not apply to us! Unless someone from before fifteen centuries ago still feels traumatized by the Roman Empire! The first slave ships arrived with kidnapped people from West Africa in the 1490s, to Brazil and the West Indies, so I don't know where this "1619" date comes from when only 5% of those kidnapped people were brought the American colonies. How do we know that? Because it says so in the 'Black Almanac', a "Black source" found in practically every public and academic library in the country. However, the massive role of the Spanish and Portuguese colonies is taboo territory, so I guess we're supposed to shoulder the blame for them! Not to mention that for fourteen centuries, an Indian Ocean slave trade existed out of East Africa, which operated in the same manner, with powerful local rulers cooperating with Arab slavers. Kidnapped people from weaker tribes were shipped and sold into slavery into every country from Morocco to India! Even to China! In the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, one ethnic group dominated that traffic. They would purchase--with whatever exchange was necessary (gold, silver, weapons, etc)--captured people from those local rulers, and ship them to Brazil for example. The historical record is very clear in that ten times as many of these kidnapped people were sold into slavery in Brazil than to the American colonies.

Again today, a scan of the news brings up a half dozen or so provocative stories. One such news item was the following: 'Pan-Africanist' professor seeks destruction of 'White' American economy through a 'political revolution'. This person is an academic, and this is not at all unusual. We can say now for certain that this is now a frequent occurrence; academics--overwhelmingly from one of these three ethno-cultural groups--threatening us openly and indirectly. In reality, this person is of historically mixed-race, not that she would care. One of Tom Moore's angry grandkids. Week after week, we hear new names of usually questionable people; victims of the system. Shot by the police, usually under questionable circumstances. Well, if we examine that further, there have been over 1,000,000 murder victims in the United States during the last fifty years; since the early '70s. How are all of those people being murdered in a country which at no point during that time was experiencing war? What about Nathan Trapuzzano, a young tech worker who was gunned down, and left behind a pregnant wife? Who speaks for him? What about  Zemir Begic, a Bosnian immigrant who was murdered by four teenagers using hammers. What about Brittany Binger, a teenager who was sodomized while being strangled, and then just left face down on the ground? How about Jessica Doty-Whitaker, a young wife and mother who was murdered for holding a sign that said "All Lives Matter"..?

These are names of people who we're just supposed to.... get over.... but it never ends! What about Karina Vetrano, who was raped and strangled to death while jogging? These are all innocent victims! In fact, the perpetrator's lab-proven DNA was under Karina's fingernails, but a crowd still demonstrated on his behalf... that he was the real victim! Kayla Hamilton was a twenty year old autistic woman who was raped and murdered. Madyson Middleton was an eight year old who was lured with ice cream, then raped and strangled. Jonathan Foster, a twelve year old, abducted, dragged into a stranger's home, bound, and tortured to death with a blow torch. I can think of more, but I have to stop somewhere! Over a million people murdered, which averages out to just under 400 per week! In 1973, Ilario Bertuccio was an eighty one year old janitor, was gunned down by "revolutionaries" in San Francisco, while walking home. He was somebody's father, grandfather. Twenty year old Terese DeMartini was also shot by the same "revolutionary" group, on the same day! She survived. They were likely specifically of our people. Other people can keep retelling the stories of a tiny number of innocent people slain, but they sure as hell don't want to talk about other much more numerous victims! These are the numbers of murder victims, but there are twenty times as many violent crime victims! These revolutionary-academics are throwing stones from a glass house! In reality, however, this whole thing is an exercise of power, intimidation, and gaslighting. This coalition has no real argument, but they're a supremacist type of group against us. Their behavior gets more and more bizarre all the time.

Del Popolo - SF pizza restaurant ranked one of top in US

SF pizza restaurant ranked one of top in US

Miabelle Salzano - KRON SF - February 7, 2023

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A San Francisco pizza joint was named one of the best places to grab a slice in America, according to a list released by Trips to Discover.

Del Popolo has been offering wood-fired pizza since 2012, according to its website. It originally launched as a mobile restaurant but opened its brick-and-mortar location on Bush Street in Nob Hill in 2015, the restaurant stated.

Del Popolo was ranked on the list among three other restaurants in California, both in Los Angeles: Mulberry Street Pizza in Beverly Hills and Pizzeria Mozza in L.A.

With 980 reviews on Google Reviews, Del Popolo has 4.4 stars. Reviewers rave about the food, service and atmosphere of the place and recommend making reservations for dine-in.

“Hands down some of the best pizza I've ever had. Classic Neapolitan pizza with a soft chewy dough and crust. Tried the Asparagus pizza and loved the slight hint of pesto and lemon. Topped off with the Basque cheesecake which was truly sublime,” Sana shared on Google reviews.

“And i thought innovations with pizza are over. Surprise!! Del Popolo is no regular pizza,” said Kushal on Google reviews. “Mouthwatering flavours with perfect textures to the bite. I can't wait to go back and try the rest on the menu. I think my favourite pizza place in SF. Great interiors, warm and friendly service, Nice date spot too.”
