Apennine wilderness - Brown bears, wolves, history, and mythology

Sibillini Mountains of Marche and Umbria

The Apennine Mountains range in long segments from from Liguria to Calabria, and has been somewhat of a barrier between the Po and Tuscany and the eastern peninsula. The Italian or Apennine wolf enjoys a large range throughout most of the peninsula and a large area in southeastern France. There are several other species of foxes and jackals. The Marsican or Apennine brown bear is extremely endangered, and those few are limited to an isolated pocket of the central Apennines. They're not leaving because of it's isolation, but it's assumed that they could expand without any trouble if their numbers could increase. There are large brown bears in the Italian Alps, but they're not a sub-species, so not considered endangered despite their small numbers.

The Italian wolf is considered the unofficial animal of Italy, partly due to its place in Roman mythology. When looking at some images of Italian wolves, I noticed that there were some which were very large, as we usually think of the wolves in North America, and some were small. I've actually noticed this within the coyotes which I frequently saw in San Mateo County over the years. Most were small and usually a golden-brown color, while once in awhile I observed some which were large and wolf-like... and usually more of a grayish coloring. Also, when looking at a world map of the current wolf range, I see numerous oddities.

First and foremost is that wolves inhabit all of the Arabian peninsula, but inhabit no range in Mexico! How can there not be wolves in Mexico with all of it's diverse terrain, and be commonplace in the largely sandy deserts of Arabia? That really blows me away! I'm sure there are wolves in Mexico, in small wandering bands here and there, but with no actual range. Also, there is a huge range in Canada, but not much in the United States. How can there not be more wolves in the U.S., but they're commonplace in northern Alaska or the entire western half of Greenland? Maybe I could see where there are forests and animals in northern Alaska, and perhaps they can live in dens during the incredibly harsh winters, but what about Greenland? There's nothing but snow and ice!

Felines and canines apparently can adapt to almost any terrain. African lions adapt very easily to the snow, and they grow a thick winter coat and everything. The genetic memory of when they inhabited the tundra is still within them. Also, identical African and Asian leopards can thrive in both blazing hot African savanna or in the winter snows of northern East Asia. Wolves seem to be the same, surviving in mountains, deserts, and ice. When looking at the current worldwide brown bear range, they obviously must have crossed the land bridge from Asia, but are now very uncommon in the United States. They have a large range in the western half of Canada and in all of Alaska.

Although there's something of a reluctance to admit it, expanding Americans simply would not tolerate having such a potentially dangerous animal amidst them. They were once common in California. Also, Europeans and East Asians did the same. I see a couple of odd locations in northern Iraq and northern Japan within that range. The Atlas bear was apparently a brown bear sub-species that inhabited the Atlas Mountain range of northwest Africa, but became extinct due to human activity and hunting. I've read where there were a very small number of scattered Atlas bears and the Barbary lions in northwest Africa a century ago. Oddly, far from being separate, bears and lions have co-existed in many locations throughout history, including Ice Age Eurasia and North America. So at one point not so long ago in the Maghreb, bears, wolves, lions, and leopards actually occupied the same territories.

The surname "Lupo" is fairly common throughout all of the Italian peninsula, particularly in Piedmont and western Lombardy, and in Sicily, Campania, and Salento. However, the surname "Cantalupo" is unique to Campania, and it translates to "Singing wolf."

Cultural significance (Italian wolf)

According to legend, Rome was founded in 753 BC by Romulus and Remus, who were raised by a she-wolf.

The animal features prominently in pre-Roman, Roman, and later Italian cultures. In Roman mythology, the wolf played a role in the founding of Rome by suckling the twins Romulus and Remus. According to Terry Jones, "The Romans did not see [the tale of Romulus, Remus and the she-wolf] as a charming story; they meant to show that they had imbibed wolfish appetites and ferocity with their mother's milk." The wolf was also considered sacred to Mars, and to see a wolf before going into battle was considered a good omen. The origin of the myth can be traced back to a wolf cult among the neighbouring Sabines. The Sabines had two words for wolf: hirpus (used in religious contexts) and lupus, the latter of which was incorporated into Latin.

Although the Romans did not worship wolves, killing them was likely considered taboo; unlike the Etruscans, the Romans very rarely sacrificed wolves in rituals, and no records have been found of wolves being used in the amphitheatres, despite being more numerous and easily accessible compared to other, more exotic animals used. The use of wolves in Roman folk medicine, while attested by Pliny the Elder, was minimal compared to other animals such as snakes or bears and, contrary to popular imagery, Roman standard bearers did not wear wolf skins, with the only units attested to have worn them being the velites, who were the poorest and youngest warriors using the wolf skins to distinguish themselves. Wolves entering cities or temples were usually only killed when the animal had no means of escape, unlike the case with wasps, oxen, and owls, which were quickly eliminated if they entered sacred areas.

Negative attitudes towards wolves in Italy largely began with the invasion of the Lombards, who zoomorphically described their raids and invasions as wolf raids, bringing wolves into disrepute. The belief in werewolves was still widespread in Italy during the early 1920s, and covering their faces when resting outside at night was once traditional among rural people, as sleeping whilst facing the full moon was thought to transform the sleeper into a wolf. The wolf also featured prominently in Italian folk medicine. Baby colic was treated by tying a sack filled with a piece of wolf gut around the child's neck, while miscarriages were prevented by tying a wolf's intestine around the mother's abdomen. Rheumatism and tonsillitis were treated with wolf fat, while a tooth or tuft of fur was worn as a talisman against the evil eye.

The Romans apparently did not consider wolves overly dangerous to people, with the only references to them attacking people being proverbial or mythological. Although Italy has no records of wolf attacks on humans after World War II and the eradication of rabies in the 1960s, historians examining church and administrative records from northern Italy's central Po Valley region (which includes a part of modern-day Switzerland) found 440 cases of wolves attacking people between the 15th and 19th centuries. The 19th-century records show that from 1801 to 1825, 112 attacks occurred, 77 of which resulted in death. Of these cases, only five were attributed to rabid animals.

Mayhem in Italy

I could post the links to the many, many videos of people from certain places--legal and illegal--doing certain things in Italy. This site might best be served by not posting them. I will just post one link here in which you may just search out "Italy" or "Italian," and see the many things that these certain groups do over there. All sorts of things such as violent assaults, sex crimes, taking hammers to ancient statues, hijacking school buses and setting them on fire with the students still inside, leaders of these various groups openly stating what their goals are, doing really gross things in supermarkets that I simply can't write here, etc, etc. The one link I'll share is....

"Right and Left" mean little today

The old "right-left paradigm" exists mostly in thought-form today. It wasn't too many years ago that the United States voted in someone as president who ran on a clear anti-war platform, then spent eight years doing little more than serve the same bankers and war profiteers on Wall Street who financed him and made certain that he got good press from the 6-corporation mainstream media that they hold massive stock in! There is really no "Left" anymore; just two opposing forces. The stronger of the two is Globalization, a finite far right politic which was designed to consolidate power in as few hands as possible worldwide, and which uses sideshow-type movements to mask over what they really are: Far Right Technocrats.

The opposition is Nationalism, generally a very watered down version, and is more conservative than actually "right wing." The Globalists have more power, are better organized, have more of an overall objective, more of the choke-points of power through trained agents, more influence through unelected bureaucrats, more transnational corporate power, and certainly much more financial power internationally. They shout out "racism" at ever turn, despite the fact that they've bankrolled horrors around the globe for centuries! By "they," I'm referring to the coalition of the three primary global banking empires who put this whole idea together.

'Italy... 400 coronavirus cases... the most infected country outside of Asia'

'Italy sealed off entire towns and canceled major events after 400 coronavirus cases and 12 deaths made it the most infected country outside of Asia'

* Italy is scrambling to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus within its borders as cases of COVID-19 soar.

* Italy has the most cases outside of Asia. As of Wednesday evening, 12 people there had died from the disease.

* The country has put almost a dozen towns under lockdown, canceled major sporting events, and debated closing its borders with neighboring countries.

* The two most infected regions are Lombardy and Veneto in the north of Italy, home to Milan and Venice. New cases are also being reported in southern Italy.

* Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.

Italy is scrambling to fight a coronavirus outbreak after a sharp spike in cases and deaths made it the worst-hit country outside of Asia.

As of Wednesday evening, 12 people in Italy had died from the virus. Italian authorities reported at least 400 cases of COVID-19 in the country, according to the BBC.

All the people who have died in Italy were elderly or had other health complications, the Italian newspaper La Repubblica and the Associated Press reported.

The country has put 11 towns on lockdown to contain the virus' spread.

The two most infected regions are Lombardy and Veneto in the north, which contain the major cities of Milan and Venice. But the virus has also spread farther south, with regions including Tuscany and the island of Sicily also reporting cases on Tuesday and Wednesday.

I'll just re-post the following from the previous post:

There are--on average--10,000 germs on a human hand. It would always be a good idea, even aside from this concern, to have liquid hand cleaner handy during the day. Also, halo oral antiseptic spray is a good precaution to use prior to a lot of close contact, such as grocery shopping. Using latex gloves is an option as well. I think a box of 100 goes for about $11 at Lowes. Face masks can be observed occasionally in places like San Francisco. Think gas pumps, shopping cart handles, and door knobs/handles.

Stossel: The Southern Poverty Law Center Scam

Stossel: The Southern Poverty Law Center Scam

ReasonTV

There are dangerous hate groups in America. So a group called the Southern Poverty Law Center promises to warn us about them. They release an annual list of hate groups in America.

The media cover it, but John Stossel says they shouldn't. It's a scam.

The Southern Poverty Law Center lists Ayaan Hirsi Ali — who grew up Muslim in Somalia and suffered female genital mutilation — as an "anti-Muslim extremist." Just because she now speaks out against radical Islam.

They also list the conservative Family Research Council as a "hate group."

That listing led a man to go to the Council's office to try to gun down their workers. The shooter later told law enforcement that he picked the group because he saw they were on the Southern Poverty Law Center's hate map and he wanted to fight bigots.

Stossel disagrees with the Family Research Council on many issues. But he says they don't deserve to be called haters. The group's Executive Vice President, Jerry Boykin, tells him: "I don't hate gay people, and I know gay people, and I have worked with gay people."

Another group that the Southern Poverty Law Center smears is the Ruth Institute. The group argues that gays shouldn't have the same rights to adopt. But does that make them haters? No, says founder Jennifer Morse: "I have no problem with gay people. That's not the issue."

Other reporters, such as Megyn McArdle at Bloomberg, have also pointed out that the group is an odd fit for a "hate" list.

There are many non-hateful groups on the Southern Poverty Law Center's hate list. But Antifa, which clearly is a hate group, is not on the list.

The Southern Poverty Law Center wouldn't talk to Stossel about their listings. Stossel says screaming "hate!" brings in money.

Morris Dees, the Center's founder, pays himself nearly half a million dollars a year. Although Dees once promised that when the Center's endowment reached $50 million, he'd stop fundraising, he didn't stop. Now the Center has $320 million dollars stashed away -- much of it in the Cayman Islands. It's all in their tax returns.

Stossel notes that they still con people into giving them even more money. Apple gave them $1 million last year.

He says the Southern Poverty Law Center has become a hate group itself. It is now a left-wing, money grabbing, slander machine.

The Southern Poverty Law Center---with a half-billion dollars at its disposal---practices ETHNIC INTIMIDATION on whomever it chooses.... often based solely on race and ethnicity! Yes, the SLPC has a distinct RACIAL PROGRAM.

There are numerous far right wing nationalist political parties in Israel, none of which are criticized by the SPLC. La Raza is a Mexican nationalist/Southwest United States irredentist advocacy group, and which is defended by the SPLC despite marches where many held signs such as "Kill Every White Male Over 14." However, the SPLC attacks Forza Nuova, an Italian nationalist political party. So according to the SPLC, Israeli nationalism is GOOD, Mexican nationalism is GOOD, but Italian nationalism is BAD. The former two were originally created by colonial supremacist movements. On the other hand, "Italians didn't steal Italy." Okay, someone could argue that the Roman Empire was the same type of colonial aggressor, however not within Italy; and even if there was some internal question of that sort, or of any other intrinsic sort, it certainly would not be any of their business.

The governments of both Israel and Mexico have stated on record as both being an "Ethnostate," a nation fully dedicated to ONE RACE only! In other words, the SPLC isn't really a civil rights group, but a powerful political lobbying apparatus with a particular agenda. They author demographically-incongruent bills submitted to the U.S. Senate, and have the political and media connections to push them through. There are numerous urban organizations in this country which call for outright violence and terrorism, but whom are ignored by the SLPC. Instead they incessantly watch and collect information on that tiny (using a hypothetical example) entirely non-political Asatru group which meets in the middle of the woods of rural eastern Oregon every week.

The SPLC absolutely will not leave alone certain very small, non-political Neopagan folk groups if they happen to follow ancient spiritual traditions which are European in origin. However ALL others are perfectly okay!.... because THEY said so!! They have a particular hatred for Asatru or Odinism, an ancient Teutonic religion once widespread throughout northern Europe, and some locations in southern and eastern Europe. After years of scrutiny without much "hate," they finally branded some of these groups as "hate groups" using the idea that they're "Volkish." VOOOLKISH!! Volkish simply means folkish, or something which is inherently a part of a particular people.

African-Americans who have discovered their Yoruba traditions, Native American traditions, Sheikhs, Shintoists, etc., are all following "folkish" traditions. I guess the German equivalent "VOLKISH" must make it evil.... because the SPLC says so! It's interesting that the SPLC has apparently not put Forza Nuova, which is present in New Jersey and Arizona, on their infamous "hate map." The ethnicity of the SPLC might feel that attacking Italians may not be good for donations at the present time. Everything they do is planned and calculated.

Some years ago, the SPLC listed a terror group which they called something like the "Algerian Armed Islamic Guerilla Organization" on their hate map. They claimed that this group was present all over the country (NYC, Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, etc.). Then, all of a sudden, this group just disappeared into thin air! It was no longer listed, and nothing more was mentioned. I suspect that they just made up that group to pad their listings for their prospective donors, then finally realized the danger of listing a fake terror group; a move perhaps too audacious even for them.

Predator or Prey?

The FBI Files: Season 6 - Ep 16 "Radical Resistance"

FilmRise True Crime

Click here to watch great FREE Movies & TV: http://filmrise.com

In the 1970s, a Croatian terrorist group linked to the National Resistance party committed acts against non-supportive Croatians living in the United States. With the help of an informant, the FBI apprehended, arrested and convicted members of the group of crimes ranging from conspiracy and extortion to murder.

THE FBI FILES reveals the crime busting techniques and forensic science used by the FBI to solve the most baffling cases. Former head of the FBI's New York Office James Kallstrom hosts these true stories of crime and detection.

************

Croatian National Resistance

The Croatian National Resistance (Croatian: Hrvatski narodni otpor, HNO), also referred to as Otpor, was an Ustaša organization founded in the aftermath of the Second World War in Spain. The HNO ran a terrorist organisation, Drina, which continued to be active well into the 1970s.

The organization operated between legitimate emigre functions and a thuggish underworld. Its leaders tried to distance the organization from the acts of the so-called renegade elements. It embraced a radical nationalist ideology that differed only marginally from Ustaše ideology.

The HNO had stated, in their constitution, that:

"We regard Yugoslavism and Yugoslavia as the greatest and only evil that has caused the existing calamity... We therefore consider every direct or indirect help to Yugoslavia as treason against the Croatian nation... Yugoslavia must be destroyed—be it with the help of the Russians or the Americans, of Communists, non-Communists or anti-Communists—with the help of anyone willing the destruction of Yugoslavia: destroyed by the dialectic of the word, or by dynamite—but at all costs destroyed."

The organization published its own magazine, Drina. It existed until 1991.

************

Croatian nationalism

Croatia is a distinct ethnicity with it's own genuine history, language, and culture. Of that, there is no question.

The Ustaša

The Croatian Revolutionary Movement, Fascist in ideology.

The Catholic Church and the Ustaša

During World War II, the Catholic Church backed the UstaÅ¡a in an effort to form a new Croatian state which would be fully Catholic. This happening---and the many war crimes of the UstaÅ¡a, along with knowledge by the church, and participation by Croatian church officials---has overwhelmingly been buried and spun by the financial and political power of the church.

Old Croatian-American communities

There have been Croatian-American communities in many corners of the United States going back a century and beyond. Chicago, Pittsburgh, southeast Louisiana, San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles... the list is long. I have a cousin in a more-or-less rural area in Pennsylvania, and she says there's a strong old Croatian community where she lives. When my family came to this country and settled in Upper Michigan, there was a Croatian community just as old as the Lombardo-Venetian community there. More recent Croatian immigrants have settled in other places like Seattle, Phoenix, locations in Florida and numerous other locales.

Croatian American Association (or here)

During the crisis in Yugoslavia during the late 80s/early 90s, the CAA organized meetings and a structure made up of leaders from all over the U.S. in regards to how to deal with the continuing crisis (at that time). There were a series of YouTube videos about this, but they seem to have disappeared. It certainly showed a tremendous amount of pride, passion, cultural continuity, and social cohesion between older Croatian communities and more recent arrivals.

Croatian National Resistance (Hrvatski narodni otpor) in America

The HNO was much the same as the ETA in the Basque Country, the FLNC in Corsica, the IRA in Ireland, and other separatist groups which resorted to terrorism. On the other hand, many consider the Sons of Liberty to have been basically a terrorist group, which brings up the hypocrisy of the topic. One person's "freedom fighter" is another person's "terrorist." Seldom do people look at the hardships perpetrated on both sides of any conflict.

What made the HNO a bit different is that they wrongly brought terror to the United States, imposing a "revolutionary tax" on successful Croatian-American businessmen. It should be stated that both parties were among the arrivals of recent decades. It probably also perhaps should be stated that the IRA had committed bank robberies in the U.S., for example in Boston, to finance themselves... as well as purchasing arms from Irish-American gangsters.

Parallels between "the Balkans" and "the Italian peninsula"

Although there were inherently more cultural elements which tied the various "nations" of the Italian peninsula together in 1860, there is not all that much difference between it and the Balkans. The peninsula also had different cultures and languages. For example, Lumbardia (pronounced "Loom-bar-DEEE-ah") was essentially a nation, with it's own distinct language. The Lumbard language is NOT a "dialect of Italian"... although it's linguistically related to Roman/Latin. Much of it is made up of words of proto-European and Gaulish origin. In a perfect world, Lumbardia would be a nation in its own right, and possessing a larger area than the current defined region.

The greater Veneto, Tuscany, Calabria, Sicilia, etc., all have their own distinct culture and native tongue... just as the competing nations of the Balkans have. However, they have long been united by a common religion. We can't blame this apathy entirely on circumstance. The Croatians have demonstrated the will and fortitude as a people--even across oceans!--to fight for their ancestral homeland. By being apathetic, even in terms of what might be good for the whole peninsula, we now get a steady diet of this....

Even locally in parts of the Bay Area where there was once quite a prominence of Italian-American culture even just twenty or thirty years ago, a recent "techie" arrival would never know that we were ever here. One would never have the faintest idea of the 100-year link between Genoa and San Francisco. Just yesterday in the late afternoon I was at a successful local business owned by a proud family in Colma with old roots in Liguria. After purchasing something, one of them said a simple phrase to me in Italian as we parted company.

While driving home I thought to myself that I was sorry that I didn't respond to his phrase in a more explicit manner.. in Italian. Here there is a big (gay) "PRIDE" mural right down the street from that establishment, and I can't even say two words in Italian? It's like subconsciously accepting our rapid demise. In the old days, we didn't feel the need to "cut out a slice of society for ourselves," as this was just our home, period. It just belonged to all who lived here.

In nature, in any given circumstance, a creature is either predator or prey. Sadly with super-Capitalism, mass migration, and the new surge in identity, radical, and behavioral politics... human society is now much the same. In the film 'Wall Street', financial predator Gordon Gekko said flatly "You are either INSIDE or you are OUTSIDE." I offer this to our people, south Italians, Croatians, Slavs, and other similar people.... right now we are OUTSIDE. What the Croatian National Resistance did wasn't the right thing to do... however, doing nothing is worse. Even discussing what one "might do" is still better than doing absolutely nothing.

The people who absolutely dominate this country---and are behind that mural... and a thousand other things that disable us with their veiled supremacism---meet every July in Marin County not far from here, and they hate us! We're archaic people who need to be replaced or go away. It's that simple. If you took all responsible, wittingly or unwittingly, for local studio apartment to be as high as $5,000 a month.... and imposed that horrible and unreasonable THING upon the hometowns that they originally came from.... their hometowns would become ghost towns overnight.... and we stand for this??

It's all part of the same thing----whether it's a supernational entity totally disempowering a people like what was happening in Croatia, or gentrifying a people out've existence in favor of others, or taxing a people out've existence, or denigrating their culture in favor of their own, or surveiling them without having to show cause----as the prominent and influential Greek statesman, orator and general of Athens--Pericles--once said: "Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn't mean politics won't take an interest in you."

The right wing/left wing folly

It's not difficult to see the problems of a nationalist movement taking on the veneer of "Fascism" or "Communism".... which are both moronic expressions to reflect just how "angry they are." Sure, there are plenty of reasons to be very angry, but they harm their cause by making it all about a general politic... instead of about flesh and blood.... about the soul of a people. Sinn Féin didn't help it's cause by attaching itself to Communists and terrorists. Lega Nord doesn't now help it's cause by even accepting the "far right" label... literally accepting the title that the enemy has given you. Native Americans who fought for their land were not "right-wing extremists." There are Russian nationalists, both Fascist and Communist, who hate each other and have even killed each other... even though they seem to support the same cause.

Remember.... Croatia did eventually win its independence.... and did not end up with a Fascist, Communist, or Globalist government, but a government which has maintained security for its people.

The EU Will Not Break Hungary

Nationalist Right Lega Becomes Italy’s Most Popular Party!!!

Northern League Wins Again: Italy Continues Its Turn to the Right!!!

Basically there is no longer any political "Left".... not since Wall Street banker/war profiteers and upper middle class street anarchists started holding each others hands... with a similar socio-political dynamic taking place all over the Western world. If there is such a strong pull to the far left, then why is there virtually no labor movement?... because of the people at the top string pulling all of these controlled opposition groups. You can't get an anarchist to protest a military industrial plant, you can't get a gay activist to support a strike, you almost literally cannot get any of these people to even think for a split second about a protest against geoengineering... but oh boy, you sure can get them excited about allowing a man to use the same bathroom as a little girl !!

In addition, this climate where the  political right is the only game in town has it's own tremendous logistical problems. For example, Paleo-Conservatives can and have used this contrived crisis to push some of their old favorite issues, such as right-to-work. It's not especially helpful to have a nationalist political party like the Northern League to be perceived as far right only. What is the opposite of Nationalism?..... Globalism aka Plutocratic Internationalism! In the current condition, a person could basically have their full belief system centered around at least what used to be a left-of-center set of issues... but if that person also opposed open borders, men using the same bathroom as little girls, or having the words "mother" and "father" banned in the public schools... well, then you must be a Fascist. However, it's okay for them to support Democrat candidates who adhere to Fascist-Globalism within a much more logical and defined definition. To the unthinking masses, Globalism is just about cooperation and trade; rather than what it actually is, a vicious and distinct plutocratic world politic.

Prior to the 1999 WTO protest in Seattle, the only people who opposed Globalization were certain comparatively small segments on the right. After the Seattle protest, the plutocrats focused and invested a massive amount of resources to corralling the liberal masses under their wing, with disastrous consequences for all decent people regardless of politics or socio-economic status. For example, now we have an entirely fake environmental movement replacing the real one... with the end-goal being a WORLD TAX. Then they can save the world by forcing all of the poor people of the world to pay money to a front for international banking cartels who have a combined wealth the equivalent of many hundreds of trillions of dollars... and that comes straight from their own biographical books.

Everything is based on perception today. During the Seattle anti-Globalization protests, Rush Limbaugh condemned it while Michael Moore praised it... all based on what how they perceived it on the surface. Today, in a painful example of intellectual dishonesty, both of them have switched sides on this issue.... and all based on how it is perceived socio-politically. In other words, when President Trump took direct action against Globalization, the controlled opposition left screamed bloody murder; however, if a hypothetical say President Cynthia McKinney had done the exact same thing, an equally mindless pack of right wing controlled opposition masses would have screamed bloody murder as well. How do we defeat this unprincipled and staged madness!??

The profession of Lawyer has slowly became known as an Attorney. The real root of this word comes from an older profession known as an Attorn. The Attorn (or Attournen, Aturner, Atorner) was the one who arranged for the transfer of wealth from the worker, farmer, or shopkeeper over to the monarchy. Isn't that wonderful!!? No, there effectively is no Left anymore, but largely rabid packs of little narcissistic self-appointed Attorns... ignorantly fighting tooth-and-nail for the transfer of wealth from the working poor over to the Global Elite.... not to mention the coming WORLD TAX. What if it wasn't Trump wrecking their plans?... what if somehow though a twist of fate, Ralph Nader or Cynthia McKinney became President and did at least many of the same types of things to drive these bankers crazy?.. such as getting rid of TPP or NAFTA? The answer is obvious! Right wing controlled opposition groups would suddenly spring out of nowhere and call for their heads! In other words, something similar to what's happening now. You cannot fix this problem by treating its symptoms, but you must get at the cancer itself!

Back in the 60s and 70s, the Global Elite used so-called left wing controlled opposition groups to commit acts of terrorism in the U.S. and in Europe. I really don't know if there's any way out've this. If there were some actual grassroots movement that really unified people, it would be infiltrated and destroyed in no time. All they had to do was threaten Ross Perot's life and he ran for the hills. They're always 2 or 3 steps ahead of us. Obama was CIA from day one, then they formulated a fake past and identity, and out of nowhere he's the sitting President and bombing country after country so that the same Wall Street bankers and war profiteers---who developed him for his role, financed him, and praised him though the mainstream media---could then cash in.... making hundreds of billions of dollars.. and the signing of NDAA... bailing out the bankers..... the stimulus package (the banks largely sat on the money instead of loaning it out to stimulate the economy)...... doubling the debt..... signing over millions of acres of Navajo sacred land over to the mining companies via executive order... destroying the water infrastructure in Libya (which brought massive amounts of free water to the people from deep under the Sahara desert)... and after all of this, he still gets to be a liberal icon!! Forget about fake news, we have fake human beings now.

'EU is FILTH' Salvini lashes out at Brussels....'

' "EU is FILTH" Salvini lashes out at Brussels as he threatens to STOP funds to 'useless' EU '

ITALIAN Interior Minister Matteo Salvini has launched an attack on the European Union claiming the "filthy" bloc has once again turned its back on Italy when the nation most needed its support, amid clashes over migrant rescue ships docking in southern Italian ports.

By Alessandra Scotto di Santolo - Express (UK) - August 27, 2018

Speaking from Pinzolo, Trento, the die-hard eurosceptic leader sent a stern warning to Brussels claiming Italy should start making cuts to annual funds sent to the European Union.

Mr Salvini criticised the Brussels bloc for its lack of support over the latest migrant rescue boat docking in the Sicilian port of Catania last week.

The Italian Interior Minister refused to give an authorisation for most of the migrants to disembark the boat until Italy received guarantees from other EU countries they would share the burden of asylum seekers.

He told supporters in Pinzolo: “Europe has demonstrated once again to be unprecedented filth that doesn’t deserve our money.

“From the first to the last one of them, no one cared.

“And I ask for your mandate to re-discuss the billions Italy sends to Brussels every year.

“I think the time has come to make some cuts to funds given to a useless institution that turns its back when we most need it.”

Prime Minister Salvini blames Genoa bridge collapse on EU budget constraints

' "We are told we cannot spend money." Italy's firebrand Deputy Prime Minister Salvini blames Genoa bridge collapse on EU budget constraints as he vows to make those responsible "pay for everything" '

* Matteo Salvini said EU spending limits were preventing his country from keeping its ageing motorways safe
* He said Italy needed to spend more on infrastructure and would ignore EU budget constraints if necessary
* Italy's anti-establishment government has long campaigned as populist Eurosceptics to win election in June
* The collapse of the Morandi highway bridge in Genoa, blamed on poor maintenance, killed at least 39 people
* Mr Salvini vowed to find 'the names and surnames of those who are guilty of unacceptable deaths'
* Investigation centred on Autostrade, which operates the section of highway that includes the bridge

By Nick White - Daily Mail - August 15, 2018

taly's Deputy Prime Minister claimed European Union spending limits were preventing his country from keeping its ageing motorways safe for the millions who use them.

Matteo Salvini said the country needed to spend more on its dilapidated infrastructure and would ignore EU budget constraints if necessary to prevent another disaster like Tuesday's bridge collapse in Genoa.

'Many motorways need maintenance but often we are told we cannot spend money because of European constraints - limits, deficits, the GDP, debt,' he said.

'We should ask ourselves whether respecting these limits is more important than the safety of Italian citizens. Obviously for me, it is not.'

Mr Salvini's government, which won a surprise election in June as a coalition between his far-right League party with anti-establishment group 5 Star, has long campaigned as populist Eurosceptics.

The financial and economic juggernauts behind the EU are the farthest of the farthest of the farthest of the extreme plutocratic right. According to their ever-self-slanted ideology, an individual could be on the far left on every issue with the exception of preserving one's people and culture... and that automatically qualifies that individual as "far right" in their press.

Here in the United States, we also have a similar problem sometimes referred to as "painted rust." Our infrastructure is in bad need of repair, You may recall the shocking bridge collapse in Minnesota eleven years ago. That should have been a wake-up call.

Italy is on a collision course with the European Union and the European Central Bank, and while many celebrate the rise of the new “populist” government coalition, the stability of both the Euro and the European Union once again gain the spotlight on the world stage.

Italy is now led by Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte – a relative unknown – and the government coalition between The League, led by Matteo Salvini, and the Five Star Movement, led by Luigi Di Maio.

Italy’s debt currently stands at approximately €2.17 trillion - or 132% of gross domestic product (GDP). To put things in perspective, Greece’s debt-to-GDP ratio was “only” 127% when they were bailed out in 2010.

The typical migrant boat mix of North Africans and Sub-Saharan Africans

'Italians First! Italy’s new Interior Minister blocks two more migrant ships'

Voice of Europe - June 16, 2018

Matteo Salvini, Italy’s Interior Minister refused two more migrant boats to dock in Italian ports. The NGO boats, sailing under the Dutch flag did not receive permission to enter Italy, The Local reports.

Salvini said on his Facebook page:
“Two more ships with the flag of the Netherlands, Lifeline and Seefuchs, have arrived off the coast of Libya, waiting for their load of human beings abandoned by the smugglers. These gentlemen know that Italy no longer wants to be complicit in the business of illegal immigration, and therefore will have to look for other ports [not Italian]where to go.”

Last week Italy already barred the Aquarius, a ship that carried 620 migrants. Later Spain offered to accept the ship in its port and allowing the migrants into the country. It is expected to arrive in Valencia on Sunday.

During his election campaign, Salvini vowed to put Italians first and protect the country against illegal immigration. He promised to deport 500,000 migrants within 5 years.

About the Islamisation of Italy the leader of the Lega party said:

“We are under attack. Our culture, society, traditions and way of life are at risk. The colour of one’s skin has nothing to do with it, but the risk is very real. Centuries of history risk disappearing if Islamisation, which up until now has been underestimated, gains the upper hand."

"Italia and Germania" (1828)

Reddit: "Italia and Germania"

Italia und Germania (1828) by Friedrich Overbeck. The two girls are personifications of the countries and symbolise their common heritage and friendship.

Here in Italy there's an adage:
Italians hold Germans in high regard, but don't love them; Germans love Italians but don't hold them in high regard.

Just pointing out the Italian landscape to the left and the German Gothic town to the right.

I love how , when you have pictures of German women in Art, there hair is often braided and Italian women have their hair tied with leaves.

well, the leaves are usually laurel leaves, the plant used in classical antiquity to crown athletes, writers, and so on. It just works as a reminder of our classical past

I like Germania and Austria more

[Not my comment, but I thought it made for an interesting concept in its own right]

Is it a coincidence that each one's clothes hint at the other's flag? The green-white-red color scheme was already in use in Italy at the time, not sure about Germany.

Both nations were struggling to create their own state at the time. If anything, it represents nationalism.

Friedrich Overbeck, the painter did want to express both heritage and friendship between these cultural spheres and their common wish for unity.

Italy and Germany have always been very similar (except culturally) in their history (divided politically, then unification, WWII...), and economically (east/west, north/south divide), well at least until not that long ago.

Nah, at that time Italy and Germany weren't countries, but a bunch of small loosely knit duchies, free cities, princedoms, republics, bishoprics and what not. That was also the time that nationalism and a national consciousness was being formed. So this picture, among other things, is supposed to be a fairly nationalistic one. So, if anything, EU is against nationalism and for a more supranational approach to things.

'Italy and Germany: A peaceful meeting of opposites'

Rosemarie Fruehauf - TheEpochTimes.com - December 5, 2010

It is a meeting of dark and bright, yin and yang, of introvert and extrovert. The harmony of this painting is so compelling because it shows a peaceful connection of opposites, a talk between two different realms and approaches toward life.

Leave everything aside—German stereotypes, Italian stereotypes, and the story of the Nazarene movement—and you are looking at a timeless painting about friendship.

.

The Nazarenes

The two ladies, Italia and Germania, in the painting by Johann Friedrich Overbeck, (1789–1869) represent two ideals of art: the art of the early Italian Renaissance as found in the young Raphael, and the German late-Middle Ages paintings like those of Albrecht DĂ¼rer. These were the ideals the painter Overbeck venerated and from which he drew his artistic inspiration.

The two girls can also be seen as symbolizing the church and the state. Overbeck and his artist friends of the Nazarene movement postulated that the partners of art should be the church and the state, a view that was regarded as old fashioned and reactionary in a time when art suddenly had to search for reasons to validate its existence.

The industrial revolution was dawning, and both the bourgeoisie and artists were growing ever more independent. In these days at the brink of the 19th century, Overbeck and some fellow students of the Academy of Vienna were dissatisfied with the lack of heart and soul in the prevalent Neoclassicism and with the conventional art education in the academy system.

In the meetings and discussions they held in a loose circle from 1808, they found their Christian ideals manifesting in the earlier European art. Four of them, including Overbeck, left the academy in 1810 and traveled to Rome. In Italy, they hoped to live a life in the way of the old, “true” artists. Making an impact in Rome. They called themselves the “Brotherhood of St. Luke” (St. Luke is the patron saint of painters) and after occupying the abandoned monastery of San Isidoro, conducted a quasi-monastic life, dedicated to praying and painting.

Soon they became known among their detractors as well as supporters by the quizzical nickname “Nazareni” (for their long-haired, biblical appearance) and were joined by other like-minded personalities. The greatest achievement of the group was the reviving of the old fresco technique that had almost been forgotten.

With two major commissions, the wall paintings of Casa Bartholdy and the Casino Massimo in Rome, they could establish an international reputation. By 1830, all the Nazarenes had returned to Germany, where many of them became acclaimed teachers and chairmen of art academies.

Overbeck, as the figurehead of the movement, rejected all offers and stayed in Rome, where he lived his dream until his death in 1869. Though admired by fans and followers, he was ridiculed by his more practical-minded contemporaries.

The Nazarenes were disillusioned over the rationalism of the enlightenment movement that had discredited itself in the terror of the French Revolution.

They preferred a society based on belief. That is why they saw the Middle Ages in a very positive light. With its simplicity and honesty, the Middle Ages became their favorite period of history.

“Italia und Germania” was especially seen as the Nazarenes’ programmatic painting, as it extols the two branches they considered to be the highest ideals of art—the early Italian Renaissance in the spiritual and introverted Madonna-like figure, together with the natural, yet proud German Middle Ages artistry represented by the blond girl.

The Nazarenes were the first art movement in a modern sense—a group of people who met to formulate an ideology of what art should be like and then worked for it. This painting exemplifies and convincingly broadcasts what they sought in art. The painting works perfectly in iconography, technique, and compositional style. Here, their dream and message is given a shape.

The Painting

The painting becomes more meaningful and beautiful the longer one looks at it. Its clear and simple coloring, supported by the stunningly smooth surface, which hardly shows a brush stroke, attracts one’s eyes naturally.

The girls are in the midst of an intimate talk. They seem to be very close, peacefully and lovingly connected. This comes mainly through the composition, as there are a lot of oval forms, which echo each other.

There is the big oval going from their shoulders to their arms and conjoined hands. There are also the ovals of the necklines that Overbeck made the same size, the similarities in the dresses, like the belts and white sleeves of their blouses as well as the floral wreaths corresponding to each other. The pink wrap that drapes the lower part of Germania’s body with its soft pleats frames and emphasizes this big oval dynamic of the setting.

It looks like a religious painting on first glance due to the strong triangular composition in which the two figures are rendered. This is what we have seen in countless saintly images, especially in the Raphael Madonna paintings. The two figures become like saints.

As in Renaissance art, Italia and Germania fill the well-balanced format, and the landscape becomes secondary. With its humble green and blues, it just illustrates a surrounding. Details tell us about the ladies’ identities: Italian architecture and the Mediterranean sea feature the background of Italia; a Gothic city and the Alps decorate Germania’s side.

Sacred Friendship

Their friendship is idealized and made sacred in the way Overbeck depicts the girls because of the harmony, dignity, and quietude of the composition. Their strongly idealized faces cannot count as portraits. Their skin is amazingly white, shimmering like porcelain. Yet this seems to be more than just a conceptual work, as it features a very natural and human conversation.

Although the two are connected, they are independent of each other; their eyes do not meet. They are conjoined by their hands, the compositional triangle shape, and multiple round forms. Each woman has her own personality and emotional quality that goes beyond the idealized portrayal. As a profile portrait, there is almost breezy cuteness in the way the blond Germania stretches her nose in the air. The blooming floral wreath comes across as extroverted and friendly. Its blooms are repeated as golden buttons on her sleeve. She leans toward the dark-haired one and holds both her hands around the others hand. She’s obviously talking to her. Some feel that she’s comforting her friend.

The image of the dark-haired Italia, with its classical three-quarter perspective and the red and blue garments she’s wearing, repeats countless Madonna portrayals. We perceive her to be introverted and almost melancholic as she holds one of her hands in front of her body as if protecting herself. She looks humbly down to the ground while her blond companion curiously looks into the landscape while talking.

The dark lady’s dress is in comparison much simpler; there are no ornaments on it. The laurel wreath she wears is the only thing that gives an idea of her Mediterranean origin and adds a little peculiarity to an otherwise perfect image of Mary.

The two become a symbol for the possible union of opposites and a peaceful dialogue of different temperaments.

Northeast Alps - Winter sports stronghold

As we're now well into the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, it should be noted that the northeast Alps is overwhelmingly the source of Winter Olympic athletes for Italy. Close to half of the Italian team are natives of the South Tyrol alone; with the vast majority of the rest being natives of Lombardy, Trentino, and Tri-Veneto Alps. SĂ¼dtiroler Dominik Windisch has already won a bronze in the Men's 10km Sprint Biathlon. Even China only has one silver so far, as it's still early.

The Italy at the 2018 Winter Olympics Wikipedia page gives a rundown on all of the events and athletes of the Italian team. Speed skater Arianna Fontana and Alpine skiiers Sofia Goggia and Nadia Fanchini are a few that I'm watching. In last months' World Cup in Austria, Italy took all three medals in the Woman's Alpine Downhill (image below); Sofia Goggia, Federica Brignone, and Nadia Fanchini ('Goggia leads Italian sweep at World Cup downhill').

NBCOlympics.com

.
The U.S. equivalent to the northeast Italian Alps is Colorado. In fact, many winter athletes from around the world train in the mountainous state. 17 year old snowboarder and Colorado native Red Gerard was the first American to win a gold medal for the slopestyle snowboard event. Michigan native Ryan Pivirotto, with roots in the Veneto Alps apparently, is an American short track speed skater.

'Italy's 2 richest regions claim victory in autonomy votes'

'Italy's 2 richest regions claim victory in autonomy votes'

MILAN (AP) — The presidents of Italy's wealthy northern regions of Veneto and Lombardy on Sunday claimed victory in autonomy referendums that seek to grab additional powers and tax revenue from Rome, riding a global tide of self-determination that has swamped Spain's Catalonia region.

The votes were nonbinding, but the leaders of the neighboring regions hope to leverage strong turnout in talks with Italy's center-left government. As leading members of the anti-migrant, anti-EU Northern League, they want to keep more tax revenue and have autonomy over such policy areas as immigration, security, education and environment.

"This is the big bang of institutional reform," Veneto President Luca Zaia said in Venice. "We are convinced, and I hope Rome understands, that this is not the wish of a political party. These are the wishes of the people."

In Milan, his counterpart in Lombardy, Roberto Maroni, said that with the votes, the two regions "can unify our forces so we can do the battle of the century." The two leaders say they will meet with their regional councils to finalize their requests before going to Rome to meet with Premier Paolo Gentiloni.

Unlike in Catalonia, the referendums do not seek independence and were approved by Italy's constitutional court. Still, the autonomy drive is a powerful threat to Rome's authority. Together, Veneto and Lombardy account for 30 percent of Italy's GDP and nearly one-quarter of the nation's electorate.

Maroni said an overwhelming 95 percent of his region's vote went to "yes," with turnout above 40 percent of Lombardy's 8 million voters. That far exceeded the bar for success that he set at 34 percent, which was the turnout for a national referendum on constitutional reform in 2001.

Independence-minded Veneto easily met a turnout threshold to validate the vote set by Zaia, with some 60 percent of the region's 4 million voters casting ballots. According to early returns, 98 percent voted "yes."

October 22 - Autonomy Referendums in Lombardia and Veneto

Europe either changes or ceases to exist - Leader of Italy’s Northern League party, Matteo Salvini

While the Catalan crisis dominates the headlines, a similar story is breaking out in Italy – with the country’s northern regions gearing up for a wide autonomy referendum. Can the vote succeed – and how will Rome deal with the results? We ask Matteo Salvini, leader of Italy’s Northern League party.

'Italy facing its OWN Catalonia: Referendums in Lombardy and Venice could TOPPLE EU'

ITALY could face its own Catalonia-style break-up with controversial referendums scheduled for both Lombardy and Venice.

Joey Millar - Sunday Express (UK) - October 5, 2017

This month the Lombardy region and the city of Venice will both vote on new powers of autonomy at referendums which are now taking on increasing levels of controversy.

Previously seen as a low-scale vote on local powers, the referendums are now experiencing symbolic overtones following last Sunday’s Catalonian chaos.

Last weekend more than 800 people were injured by police as a referendum on independence for Catalonia was held - against the express wishes of leaders in Madrid and Brussels.

And now Italy is facing similar chaos with two referendums set to be held on October 22, although in these instances the votes are state-approved and will not face violent opposition.
