Mrs. Lionel Messi Is FIRE! Meet Antonella Roccuzzo

The Fumble

You can argue that Lionel Messi is the best soccer player in the world, so it's only fitting that his bae is the hottest WAG in the game right now. We can't get enough of her, and it seems Lionel can't either, because their love story is straight out of a fairy tale. Lionel fell in love with Antonella when he was just nine years old. The soccer star had written letters to Roccuzzo, stating that she'd be his girlfriend one day.

While she had friendzoned Messi for many years, tragic circumstances brought the pair closer together, and they've been inseparable ever since. They have two children together, and appear to be living in their happily ever after.

Revisioning drawing of Lisa del Giocondo

Lisa del Giocondo

Lisa del Giocondo (née Gherardini; June 15, 1479 – July 15, 1542) was an Italian noblewoman and member of the Gherardini family of Florence and Tuscany. Her name was given to the Mona Lisa, her portrait commissioned by her husband and painted by Leonardo da Vinci during the Italian Renaissance.

Little is known about Lisa's life. Born in Florence and married in her teens to a cloth and silk merchant who later became a local official, she was a mother to five children and led what is thought to have been a comfortable and ordinary middle-class life. Lisa outlived her husband, who was considerably her senior.

Centuries after Lisa's death, the Mona Lisa became the world's most famous painting and took on a life separate from Lisa, the woman. Speculation by scholars and hobbyists made the work of art a globally recognized icon and an object of commercialization. In 2005, Lisa was definitively identified as the model for the Mona Lisa.

Roman coins from Breathitt County, Kentucky

The above three coins were found in a cave shelter in Breathitt County, Kentucky, by Mr. Michael Wayne Griffith of the same county. Mr. Griffith has found another 9 or so similar coins, but the three depicted are the best preserved of the group.

A few years ago the three depicted were examined hands-on by Norman Totten, Professor of History, now Emeritus, at Bentley College. Totten identified the two thinner coins (the top two above) as antoniniani, a type of bronze Roman coin minted between 238 and 305 A.D. The obverses (left photos) depict an unidentifiable emperor wearing the distinctive "solar crown" of the period. The reverse of the top one, in the right photo, depicts two figures standing facing what apparently is a central altar, while that of the middle one depicts a female standing figure facing left with a cornucopia in her right hand.

These would originally have had a silver surface, long since gone. The third coin is thicker, and depicts a bust facing right, wearing a laureate wreath rather than a crown. The reverse, according to Totten, is perhaps a figure of a centaur walking to the right and looking back. Its flan (the metal disk from which coin is made) seems to be of a North African (Egyptian) or Middle Eastern type. This coin probably dates to a similar period to that of the two antoniniani (singular antoninianus). While Totten is confident that the coins are genuine, he warns that such coins are easy to obtain from coin dealers.

In 1963, a small hoard of Roman coins from the same approximate period, and in a much better state of preservation, was found during bridge construction on the north bank of the Ohio River, at the Falls of the Ohio, opposite Louisville, Kentucky.

Breathitt Co., population 16,100 in 2000, is on the upper Kentucky River, in the southeastern portion of the state. The county seat is Jackson, pop. 2,490. Two of the larger towns are named Quicksand and Lost Creek, but the 2000 U.S. Census couldn't find either. The nearest metropolis is Hazard (which may or may not be the inspiration for the "Dukes of Hazzard" TV series), pop. 4,806, and one county to the south.

Mr. Griffith is difficult to contact, but is known to Mr. David Feldman, President of Feldman Lumber Co. in Lancaster, Ky.

The author wishes to thank Prof. Norman Totten, Dr. John Payne, of Berea, Ky., and Mr. David Feldman of Lancaster, Ky., for their invaluable assistance.

Gianfranco Rosi vs Duane Thomas 03-01-1988

WBC World Super Welterweight Title Fight

Venue: Palazzo Dello Sport, Genoa, Liguria, Italy

************

Gianfranco Rosi

Gianfranco Rosi (born 5 August 1957) retired Italian boxer who was a two-time world champion in the light-middleweight division.

Professional career

Rosi turned pro in 1979 and won the WBC light-middleweight title in 1987 by decisioning Lupe Aquino. He lost the belt in 1988 when he was dominated by Donald Curry. Rosi was down once in 2nd, 4th and 8th and down twice in 7th, failing to answer the bell starting the 10th round.

In 1989 he won the IBF light-middleweight title by outpointing the undefeated Darrin Van Horn. He went on to successfully defend the title an impressive 11 times. In 1994 he had a technical draw against Vincent Pettway, and in the rematch later that year Pettway KO'd Rosi, ending his long reign.

In 1995 he took on WBO light-middleweight title holder Verno Phillips and won a decision, but Rosi failed a drug test and Phillips was reinstated as champion. The result of the bout was changed to a No Contest. In 1997 he lost a rematch to Phillips and retired.

In 2003 he came out of retirement, and finally retired in 2006 at the age of 49 with a pro record of 62 wins (18 KOs), 6 losses, and 1 draw.

Amateur career

Rosi had a record of 94 wins - 2 losses - 4 draws Highlights:

1976 Italian Light-Welterweight Champion

1977 Italian Welterweight Champion

************

Born in Assisi in the province of Perugia (Umbria), Gianfranco Rosi took a 32-1 record into a European Welterweight Championship bout in 1984 with future world welterweight champion Lloyd Honeyghan from the UK. Rosi lost his first big bout, but won his next nine--including winning the European Junior Middleweight title and defending it twice--and took a 41-2 record into a bout with world champion Luge Aquino of Mexico, a much more dangerous opponent than Honeyghan. Rosi won a unanimous decision to take the belt.

There were so many outstanding boxers worldwide in the 80s, especially between 147 and 160 pounds. Next he defended the belt against another very hard punching boxer, former champion Duane Thomas of Detroit, winning by knockout. Although he lost in his next defense against former welterweight champion Donald Curry, he eventually won the world title back and defended it eleven times before losing.

The Discovery and Restoration of Leonardo da Vinci's Long-Lost Painting "Salvator Mundi" | Robb Report

Robb Report

Leonardo da Vinci is one of history's greatest artists and thinkers. Only about 15 of his paintings are known to exist and one was thought to be lost forever. Leonard painted that masterpiece, called "Salvator Mundi" (Savior of the World) around 1500. It was owned by no less than three kings and, in 1763, it disappeared. This video tells the story of that incredible painting, how it was rediscovered in 2005, and what happened when it went to auction at Christie's in November 2017.

[This portion was originally from the CCNA blog - entitled 'Disciplina Etrusca' by Voltumna - May 31, 2015]

This band named itself after the supreme god of the Etruscan pantheon, "Voltumna" (also called "Veltha"), which I just covered a bit on the other blog ('Etruscan women, mythology, and the god Veltha'). Black Metal music is a lot like the old Heavy Metal music in that some of it is truly good, while most you would probably have to really like the genre to appreciate. This particular song wouldn't be my first choice to promote, but I love the theme! The 'Disciplina Etrusca' was the text of ancient Etruscan polytheism, which was made up of the three "books of fate."

Beyond the larger Black Metal genre, are the sub-genres of "Celtic Black Metal," "Viking Black Metal," etc., etc. One thing this music offers is a clear link to folk-identity, in this case "Etruscan Black Metal." The band's lyrical theme is defined as "Etruscan Paganism, Mythology, Modern Decay"; and it's genre as Black/Death Metal. This additionally suggests a type of Gothic element to it. Dark symbolism can be beautiful, and could be an outlet for people, primarily younger people, who feel alienated by society.

This song is brand new; just released today in fact. The band is from Viterbo, Latium, and has been around since 2009. Viterbo was one of the city-states of the Etruscan civilization. In a Western society which makes a special point to squash identity (individual and collective), I think it's great that people can turn to their ancestors for inspiration and strength. It's not just Black Folk Metal, but there are many other genres which are folk-oriented in this manner. I mean something a little beyond a band merely playing folk music from a certain culture. There's often a rebel-aspect to it.

If you don't like Black Metal, maybe seek out some of the other types of music within this concept. There's one band from Sardinia called Atrium Animae which is under a genre called "Atmospheric Neoclassical Darkwave," which is hauntingly beautiful.. and is based on what appears to be a Medieval Catholic style. There is Irish Black Metal, Odinic music of many sounds, Slavic, you name it. You might find something you like within one of these folk-spiritual-identity sub-genres.

I like music of just about every texture and harmony, but I don't like "sad music." There are enough things in this life to be sad or depressed about; especially when we lose people. Something inspirational is great, especially when there's that blood-folk connection with a spiritual tie-in. Black Metal is almost like fighting music. Perhaps we need some of that in our lives, because often life is a war. Evolutionary struggle.

Sophmore guard from Bologna shines for Texas Tech

'No. 3 Texas Tech Upsets No. 1 Gonzaga for First Trip to Final Four'

Texas Tech 75, Gonzaga 69

By Billy Witz - New York Times - March 30, 2019

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Texas Tech men’s basketball team carries around a mantra like a chip on its shoulder: The secret’s in the dirt. It is a particularly appealing message — that success is usually found by getting your hands in the muck — especially to the ears of basketball mutts and vagabonds, and a star whose own father questioned why he would want to stay home in Lubbock.

So when a moment of truth arrived on Saturday, and top-seeded Gonzaga — with its free-flowing offense and shotmakers all over the court — readied for a final charge, the Red Raiders found success by doing what they do best: digging in.

The Red Raiders, leaning on their defense as they have all season, clamped down on Gonzaga and rode a pair of ice-cold 3-pointers from Davide Moretti and some cool free-throw shooting to a 75-69 victory in the West Region final of the N.C.A.A. tournament.

The win sends No. 3 Texas Tech to the Final Four in Minneapolis, the first trip in team history.

USA Women's Hockey Team steals the show.... according to many casual followers

'2018 Winter Olympics: Team USA women's hockey scores historic wins on and off ice'

The gold medal victory was an absolutely perfect ending to a landmark year for the program

Pete Blackburn - CBSSports.com - February 22, 2018

The last 12 months have been a roller coaster ride for the United States women's national hockey team, but on Thursday in Pyeongchang, that ride reached its ultimate peak -- an Olympic gold medal.

Team USA defeated Canada, 3-2, in a thrilling shootout win in South Korea to earn their first gold medal in 20 years. It was the third consecutive Olympics in which the American and Canadian women faced off in the final, and this one came 38 years to the day of the "Miracle On Ice."

For the American women, there was no miracle necessary. Thursday's gold medal game was earned on the strength of skill, execution, perseverance, heart and fearlessness. It was a perfectly fitting way to wrap up what has been an incredible last year for the Team USA women, who have earned major victories both on and off the ice.

Dani Cameranesi

One of the numerous important role players for the USA team--I almost want to say "fighters" due to the manner of last evenings game--was 22 year old Dani Cameranesi from Minnesota. She was one of six ex-Minnesota Golden Gophers on the team. "Cameranesi" is of Marchese origin, like a famous Minnesota native Robert Mondavi. There was a sizable migration Lombards and Marchese to eastern Minnesota way back when, from Duluth to Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Northeast Alps - Winter sports stronghold

As we're now well into the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, it should be noted that the northeast Alps is overwhelmingly the source of Winter Olympic athletes for Italy. Close to half of the Italian team are natives of the South Tyrol alone; with the vast majority of the rest being natives of Lombardy, Trentino, and Tri-Veneto Alps. Südtiroler Dominik Windisch has already won a bronze in the Men's 10km Sprint Biathlon. Even China only has one silver so far, as it's still early.

The Italy at the 2018 Winter Olympics Wikipedia page gives a rundown on all of the events and athletes of the Italian team. Speed skater Arianna Fontana and Alpine skiiers Sofia Goggia and Nadia Fanchini are a few that I'm watching. In last months' World Cup in Austria, Italy took all three medals in the Woman's Alpine Downhill (image below); Sofia Goggia, Federica Brignone, and Nadia Fanchini ('Goggia leads Italian sweep at World Cup downhill').

NBCOlympics.com

.
The U.S. equivalent to the northeast Italian Alps is Colorado. In fact, many winter athletes from around the world train in the mountainous state. 17 year old snowboarder and Colorado native Red Gerard was the first American to win a gold medal for the slopestyle snowboard event. Michigan native Ryan Pivirotto, with roots in the Veneto Alps apparently, is an American short track speed skater.

Julia Mancuso - Olympic Champion

Julia Mancuso

Julia Marie Mancuso (born March 9, 1984) is an American World Cup alpine ski racer and Olympic gold medalist. She won the giant slalom at the 2006 Winter Olympics, and was the silver medalist in both downhill and combined in 2010, and the bronze medalist in the combined in 2014. She has also won five medals (two silver and three bronze) at the World Championships and seven races in regular World Cup competition. Her four Olympic medals are the most ever for a female American alpine skier.

During the Olympic Alpine Skiing competition in Torino in 2006, former Olympic gold medal winner Picabo Street stated what a big disappointment the U.S. women skiers have been up to the point. Right after she said that, 21 year old Julia Mancuco skied her perfect gold medal winning Giant Slalom race (see above). Even the Italian fans present cheered for that "Mancuso" girl from Lake Tahoe. If Olympic medals are the chief manner of judging success, Julia has gone on to win two more silver medals (Vancouver 2010) and a bronze medal (Sochi 2014). She is half Calabrian and half Cisalpine ancestry.

Louis Zamperini - American-Cisalpine of Veronese ancestry: Part 1

Remembering the "Unbroken" spirit of Louis Zamperini

CBS News - July 6, 2014

A FINAL SALUTE now to Louis Zamperini, an American hero in both war and peace who died this past week at the age of 97. The suffering he endured during World War II was matched only by the remarkable forgiveness he later extended to his former tormentors.

Chip Reid's visit with him two years ago is this Independence Day weekend's Cover Story:

"The house is full of antiques," said Louis Zamperini. "Including me!"

Zamperini's home is too small to hold memories of a life so large. There are the trophies honoring his athletic accomplishments, including the five torches he carried at five different Olympic Games

And then there are the souvenirs from the prison camps where he spent two years of his life, including a bamboo fork, and an old belt buckle he still has.

"I'm surprised the Japanese didn't take it away from me, 'cause they were short of brass," he said. But Zamperini's story was pretty much ancient history -- an elderly man waving in a parade -- until a bestselling book, "Unbroken," reminded the world of his harrowing tale.

His first fame came when he was just a teenager. In 1936, he made the U.S. Olympic team; at 19, he was the youngest qualifier in the 5,000 meters.

He didn't win, but Louis Zamperini became a household name -- a sports hero.

A few years later, the nation was at war, and Zamperini was a bombardier in the Army Air Corps. In May 1943, his B-24 crashed into the Pacific.

"Our number one engine, the rpm stopped," he recalled. "This plane was barely flying with four motors, and with two gone, it just dropped like a rock. And so we hit the water nose down. I felt like someone hit me on the forehead with a sledgehammer. The plane was completely blown apart."

As documented in a 1998 CBS News story from correspondent Bob Simon, Zamperini spotted a life raft floating rapidly away from the burning water. He swam to it. He spent 47 days in the inflatable raft.

"I never prayed before," Zamperini said. "When you're on a raft, you pray like in a foxhole."

He fought off sharks, and battled the sea.

Things went from bad to worse. Zamperini was near death when he was captured by the Japanese and taken to a place known as "Execution Island," where every known prisoner had been put to death.

"They took great joy in telling us we were going to be executed," he said. "They'd always go through the motions [slitting throat]"

It got even worse. His fame back home led to hours of torture and beatings
at the hands of a sadistic guard nicknamed The Bird. "I couldn't bear to look at his eyes. I just couldn't do it. To me, they were that sadistic," he said. When he wasn't being beaten, he was starved, like most of the Americans held by the Japanese. But somehow, he survived.

Louis Zamperini returned home a hero. There were TV appearances, including "This Is Your Life." His life appeared to return to normal.

But the war years, while gone, were anything but forgotten. Haunted by nightmares, he turned to alcohol.

Then, in a last-ditch effort to save his marriage, and perhaps his life, Zamperini joined his wife Cynthia at a prayer service led by a young Billy Graham. Graham's sermon touched on the power of forgiveness.

"That was the first night in two-years-and-a half that I didn't have a nightmare, and I haven't had one since," recalled Zamperini. He said forgiveness "was the complete healing factor in my life."

Which is why Zamperini decided to commit himself to a lifetime of forgiveness.

And that meant he had to go back to Japan, to see the prison guards who'd tried so hard to destroy him.

Famous Cisalpines outside of Padania: Part 2

General Carl Vuono - probably a Cisalpine
Just to continue with the previous posting, Manuel Belgrano was an important Argentine economist, lawyer, politician, and military leader during the early 1800's. He took part in the Argentine Wars of Independence and created the Flag of Argentina. He is regarded as one of the main "Libertadores" of the country. A very important figure in Argentine history, he was of Ligurian ancestry. General Carl E. Vuono was a U.S. Army General who served as Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army from 1987 to 1991. His place of birth, Monongahela, seems to suggest that his father was of Camunian (Lombardian) ancestry. His mother was of Finnish descent.

Michael Cremo is an independent author and researcher, possibly of Cisalpine ancestry. His most well known work is the book 'Forbidden Archeology: The Hidden History of the Human Race' (1994; Cremo and Thompson), in which clear evidence far predating the supposed period of human existence is presented. When fossils and artifacts don't fit the mainstream mold, they're stored away in warehouses. Whether or not he's of Cisalpine descent, I think he's done great work. Jon Volpe was a star running back for the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League. Starring alongside college and future NFL star quarterback Doug Flutie, he won the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie Award in 1991 with 1,395 yards and 20 touchdowns. With the name "Volpe," and being a  native of Upper Michigan, seems to suggest that he's of perhaps Lombardo-Venetian descent... or at least of some Cisalpine roots.

I wanted make mention the late Joan Veon (1949-2010), which is hard to do because nothing I could write in a few sentences could ever be good enough. She was originally from Racine, Wisconsin and I think of Piedmontese ancestry, but regardless, she was a truly great American. With a Bachelor’s degree in Business, she became wealthy in the financial world, and was looking forward to retiring and moving on to new things. Instead of doing that, she—at her own expense— traveled to over 100 of the top globalist meetings to capture the most crucial information and present the big picture to all who have ears to hear and who are not afraid of the truth. After forming a media group, for sixteen years she interviewed and asked key questions of prime ministers, presidents, kings, and heads of state.

At times, as the only American reporter, Joan covered over 103 international meetings, including: the G7, G8, G10, G20, and Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Basel Switzerland; attended yearly the World Economic Forum in Davos Switzerland; and twice a year covered the IMF World Bank meetings. In addition she attended UN meetings on the Free Trade Areas of the Americas, Sustainable Development, the Earth Summit, Climate Control, the International World Court, and numerous others. Probably her best known work was the 1999 book 'United Nations Global Strait Jacket'. If, for example, most of the wealthiest men and concerns in the world kept getting together to talk about abolishing private property (Agenda 21)... wouldn't it at least be logical to look into it?

Joe Satriani - probably not a Cisalpine
Singer-songwriter Marcella Puppini, originally from Bologna, formed the musical trio The Puppini Sisters with two English women. The group is associated with a burlesque revival, and they're quite entertaining. Sergio Pizzorno is a British guitarist and songwriter, best known for his work with the rock band Kasabian. He is of Ligurian descent. The late Marino Pieretti was another of the many "San Francisco Italian" Major League Baseball stars. Pieretti was born in Lucca, Tuscany and grew up in North Beach. There's a mural with his name at the Crocker-Amazon playground in San Francisco, nearby the old bocce ball courts. Small reminders of what is becoming a forgotten heritage in the area. Popular actress Kate Walsh is of half Italian ancestry, probably Cisalpine. She is originally from San Jose, California.

Alexander Rossi is an up and coming auto racing star from California. The late Jim Pagliaroni was a Major League Baseball catcher for many years during the 50's and 60's. He was originally from Dearborn, Michigan. Marco Scutaro is a Major League Baseball infielder who was named MVP of the 2012 National League Championship Series with the Giants. Although very likely of Southern Italian descent and being from Venezuela, he brings up the issue of Italians from South America who are seemingly not regarded by anyone as "being Italian." Personally, I think that there is a clear connection at least with "the cone of South America" as far as Italian.. or European heritage in general. However with Venezuela, being a largely Amerindian and African country, I can understand the disconnect. Joseph "Joe" Satriani is a veteran instrumental rock guitarist who seems to have done everything and been everywhere in the rock music world. Born to Italian immigrants, someone may have suggested to me that he could be of Cisalpine descent.

Piero Scaruffi is a well known freelance software consultant and university lecturer, apparently from Piemonte originally. "Piero Scaruffi's knowledge base" website. The late Don Mossi was a major league pitcher from 1954 to 1965. He was a left-handed control pitcher whose strikeout-to-walk ratio was regularly among the league leaders (he led the league in 1961). He was born in St. Helena in Napa County, California, and grew up in Daly City (just south of San Francisco); both cities with roots of people of Cisalpine ancestry.. at least then. Kristin Cavallari is a popular television personality, fashion designer, and actress.. originally from Denver. Gina Gretta is a young actress from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. San Francisco native Lady Fanucci is a well known local artist.

The late Lani O'Grady (Lanita Agratti) was an actress best remembered for her role as Mary Bradford in the early 80's television series 'Eight is Enough'. Originally from Walnut Creek, California, and of Italian-American parentage.. presumably Cisalpine. An entry from an IMDB-user: I had the pleasure of meeting Lani O'Grady back in 1989 when she came to Crawfordville, Indiana for a 4th of July fundraiser. She was full of pep and joy as she met everyone with a big smile and a hug. Heck, she even let me kiss her!! She was really a crowd pleaser and the fans just loved her. To me, Lani was a wonderful person and it broke my heart when I heard she had passed on. She will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Lani!!! I will never forget that 4th of July!!!

Dan Pastorini

Dan Pastorini

Dante "Dan" Anthony Pastorini (born May 26, 1949 in Sonora, California) is a former American football quarterback in the National Football League for the Houston Oilers, Oakland Raiders, Los Angeles Rams, and the Philadelphia Eagles.

NFL career

Pastorini was drafted by the Houston Oilers in the first round (third overall) of the 1971 NFL Draft out of Santa Clara University. The draft was dubbed "The Year of the Quarterback" with Pastorini taken third behind Jim Plunkett (first) and Archie Manning (second).

Pastorini was known as a tough quarterback throughout his career.[citation needed] From 1971 through 1979, Pastorini missed only five regular season games, playing through the pain of broken ribs and even a punctured lung at times. He was the first player to wear the now ubiquitous "flack jacket" under his uniform to protect broken ribs. He did not play behind what would be considered a quality offensive line until 1977 when the Oilers hired Joe Bugel as offensive line coach and brought in players like Greg Sampson and, later Leon Gray. By 1978, the Oilers had a running game with the drafting of future Hall-of-Famer Earl Campbell.

Pastorini was also named to the 1975 AFC Pro Bowl Team.

Pastorini's best season came in 1978 when he threw for a career high 2,473 yards and 16 touchdowns. In the 1978 playoffs, Pastorini fared very well, helping lead the Oilers to wins over the Miami Dolphins and AFC East division champion New England Patriots.

Pastorini's last game as a Houston Oiler was the 1979 AFC championship game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, a game which many Oilers fans contended was decided when, in their opinion, the officials blew a call on a Mike Renfro TD reception. Instant replay rules, in any form, were not in effect at the time, so the play could not be reviewed, as it would be in the present day. The best replay angles NBC could provide of the play show Renfro clearly catching the ball and getting both feet in the endzone with no juggling. It was not clear to the referees but was very clear to all viewers of the game that Renfro had complete control of the ball when he hit the ground. His feet according to the replays were both inbounds when he had possession of the ball. The play was a major turning point in the momentum of the game, which resulted in a Steeler triumph.

Later in 1980, Oilers owner, Bud Adams, traded Pastorini to the Oakland Raiders, in exchange for an aging Ken Stabler, who was 3 years Pastorini's senior.

Five weeks into the 1980 season with Oakland, after posting a 2-2 record, Pastorini broke his leg against the Kansas City Chiefs. The fans, who had been unhappy with his performance and wanted to see backup Jim Plunkett, cheered when they realized he was hurt. Plunkett, a Heisman Trophy winner out of Stanford, and former starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, had been with the Raiders as a backup quarterback since 1978. He took over and led the Raiders to a Super Bowl victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in January 1981.

Outside of football

Pastorini raced hydroplanes, drag-raced cars, judged wet T-shirt contests, and starred in a 1974 B-movie called Weed: The Florida Connection and then co-starred in a 1979 Lee Majors movie called Killer Fish. He married glamour model June Wilkinson, who appeared in Playboy Magazine. She is British and 9 years older. They had one child, a daughter, and later divorced.

Dan Pastorini drove a Top Fuel Dragster as part of the NHRA Full Throttle (Winston) Drag Racing Series in the mid 1980s. He collected several national event victories. His first came in Atlanta at the NHRA Southern Nationals in 1986.

Pastorini currently lives and works in Houston. His highly anticipated autobiography -- Taking Flak: My life in the fast lane -- is scheduled for release in November of 2011. He currently is launching a new line of food products.

Remembering Kevin Restani

Remembering Kevin Restani

[from RiordanHS.org; see above link for more information]

April 25, 2011 marked the one-year anniversary of the passing of a basketball and San Francisco legend Kevin Restani. Kevin’s unexpected death left a void in the lives of those that knew him, especially his family from Archbishop Riordan High School and the Olympic Club.

Archbishop Riordan High School President, Patrick W. Daly and Olympic Club Foundation Chair, Steve Carnevale came together to develop a partnership to recognize the accomplishments of this extraordinary man.

Kevin was a loving husband and a gifted athlete who enjoyed spending countless hours helping children in need. It was decided in order to recognize Kevin’s life, the gymnasium at Archbishop Riordan would receive a complete overhaul and be named after him. The new facility will be called the Kevin Restani Sports Arena. The Olympic Club Foundation with Archbishop Riordan and its alumni community are excited about making this project a successful partnership.

Phil Galvin, Director of Basketball Operations at the Olympic Club stated “This is the right job for us [the Olympic Club Foundation] to do. Everything Kevin started was in the Riordan gym. If you were to tell him [Kevin] this is what was going to happen, he would say, “Yeah, absolutely!” There is no one more deserving of such an honor for what he did for this school [Archbishop Riordan], the city, and the Olympic Club. He was truly one of a kind.”

Archbishop Riordan High and the Olympic Club Foundation are excited to be embarking upon the initial phase of an athletic renovation campaign at Archbishop Riordan High School. The plan looks to the future of archbishop Riordan while memorializing Kevin, a class of 1970 graduate from Archbishop Riordan High School and an integral member of the Olympic Club basketball Program.

This initial phase of the renovation, the Remembering Restani Campaign, charts a clear and focused course to address the capital needs of the current facility. the goal is to modernize the existing gymnasium. The modernized facility will meet the needs of archbishop Riordan student/athletes and youth athletics.

The Remembering Restani Campaign encompasses the replacement of the gym floor, lights, baskets and lower bowl seating, as well as renovations and upgrades to the main locker room, team rooms, and offices. The modernization of the Restani sports arena is the first step of a three phase athletic facilities campaign. With a state-of-the-art gymnasium and projected new facilities, Archbishop Riordan will provide modern athletic facilities to meet the needs of its diverse student body and the youth of San Francisco.

The renovation of the Restani Sports Arena will introduce a new grand lobby. The lobby’s focus will be the Kevin Restani Memorial Wall.

The current estimated cost of the gymnasium renovation is $3.2 million. Raising funds to begin construction by spring 2012 is the goal of the school and the Olympic Club Foundation.
